[plamo:15950] KDE3.03 device /dev/dsp can't opend

KDE3.03ですが、startxで起動後、エラーのウィンドウが出ます。
Sound server informational messge:
Error while initializing the sound driver:
device /dev/dsp can't be opend(No such device)
The sound server will continue,using the null output device.

見るからに、サウンドのデバイスがないと言っていると思うのですが、
このエラーの対処方法はあるのでしょうか？

一応、
ln -s dsp0 dsp
ln -s dsp1 dsp
ln -s dsp2 dsp
ln -s dsp3 dsp
等と順番にやって、startxしましたが
結果は同じでした。

サウンドカードは
ESS Allegro PCI オーディオ
です。
