実はあれから sc7.15 で、また困った現象が出てきました。
（日本語で書くと冗長になるので）以下

case $TERM in
  linux | xterm ) ハイライト表示可能 ;;
  kon   | kterm ) ハイライト表示不能 ;;
esac

という現象です。
ncurses の問題だそうで、sc7.15付属の README に

とありました。
確かに kon と kterm では "tput ncv" が 3 という値だったので、
この記述の通り、

 $ infocmp > _s
 $ vi _s           # ncv#3 -> ncv#2
 $ tic _s

とすることで、kterm と rxvt ではちゃんとハイライト表示が可能になったのですが
jfbtermではダメでした。(;_;)
tput ncv は 2 になったのですが ..
